Another Castle

by Michael

Do you wonder what it’s like to go through hell?
Imagine the taste of acid sitting on your tongue
Before you lie pits and gunfire and everyone wants to kill you
Behind you your own wake of destruction
If you could go back there’d be nothing to go back to
You’re bitter inside that the irony of all this is that you did it for love
You had everything you could want, but it was stolen
Being bitten hasn’t deterred you
You never seem to die though you jump from higher and higher cliffs
Ruptured spleens and burst appendices spew bile into cavities where your limbs used to be
You spend all your days running on, there’s nothing to eat or drink so there’s no need to stop
Finally, you claw your way to the demon who so rudely asks you kill or die
It’s not so hard, once you get past the green shell hard as emeralds
Skin more like liquid stone than dragon scales or think leather hide
Magma intestines rank enough to make keeping your innards solid a job chemists refuse
There is nothing beyond that except demise
Finally you conquer this fortress dumping the last of it out, you are victorious
The end in sight, you meet a funny little man whom you believe to be your friend
Until he remarks that your princess is in another castle

Imagine the taste of acid sitting on your tongue
Before you lie craggy pits and gunfire and everyone wants to kill you
Behind you is a wall of all the dreams you crushed and the things you stole

Through all that is the warm gooey center and you gladly savor the taste of demon’s death
you conquer this fortress dumping the last of it out, you are victorious
The end in sight, you meet a funny little man whom you believe to be your friend
Until he remarks that your princess is in another castle
